So I had an easy clinical today. I didn't have to be there until 1500 and I was done at 1900 and I didn't have to prep. I spent my time following the IV nurses around. I watched blood get hung, I watched-and helped a little-a PICC (Peripherally inserted central catheter) get placed, and one more be difficult on it's way in and down, and saw a PIV site redressing and two failed attempts at a PIV insertion. It was all rather interesting, the PICC lines most of all though. It's a steril procedure and they set up a sizable steril feild. It's ultrasound assisted, but they're sticking needles and wires in your arm and there's blood and cutting and all kinds of cool stuff. So by peripheral (PICC) it usually means in the elbow/bicep regiou and the other end of the catheter at the junction of the inferior and superior vena cava. Here's a chest X-ray to confirm correct placement, I've hightlighted the PICC line. The X-ray is also a great example of not clear lungs.

And after clinical, I stopped by one of the pianos that I usually play at and played for about 20 minutes. I haven't had a chance to stop by a play to much recently, so it was nice to be able to do that. As I was biking back to my car, I decided that it was a nice night and I should go for a little ride. So I went from Mayo Field to the fire station and around Silver Lake, and then back to my car. It was a nice little ride, lots of smiling faces. Threw my bike back in my car and headed for home. I think I'll read some more Harry Potter tonight (book four), it's starting to get pretty exciting.
